New Data: Clean Energy Invests Nearly $17 Billion in Kansas
Washington DC, August 29 – Today, the American Clean Power Association released new clean energy data for Kansas, revealing that the Sunflower State is the third largest generator of wind power in the nation with clean energy capital investments totaling nearly $17 Billion.
Wind energy alone generates over $78 million annually to Kansas communities through state and local taxes and land lease payments. The clean energy sector powers nearly 3 million homes and 3,500 Kansans work in the industry.
"Kansas is a clean energy success story, producing and using clean power for a greater share of the state's electricity generation mix,” said ACP’s Director of Southeast State Affairs, Wade Giltz. “This revenue helps bridge budget shortfalls, empowers communities to invest in roads, schools, and essential services, and creates stable jobs in construction and maintenance as more wind projects are developed in the state.”
Additional Key Facts & Figures:
- Nearly 50% of the state’s electricity comes from wind
- By 2030, the state is expected to add an additional 3,300 MW of utility-scale solar, 5,640 MW of wind power, and 200 MW of battery storage, representing a 100% increase in total clean power capacity
- These new projects represent $12 billion in expected private sector investment that will support Kansas’ clean energy economy by 2030
