New Data: Clean Energy Generates Nearly $14 Million Annually for West Virginia Communities

White Sulphur Springs, WV, August 26 – Today, the American Clean Power Association released new clean energy data for West Virginia, revealing that the Mountain State’s clean energy capital investments total more than $2 million in projects. These projects generate nearly $14 million in annual revenue in taxes and land lease payments that help bridge budget shortfalls and empower communities to invest in roads, schools, and essential services.

This revenue also creates stable jobs in construction and maintenance as more clean energy projects are developed in the state. The clean energy sector currently employs 1,200 residents and powers nearly 240,000 West Virginia homes.

“Building on West Virginia’s diverse energy mix is key to unlocking a new generation of durable, family sustaining jobs,” said ACP CEO Jason Grumet. “Large-scale wind, solar, and energy storage are essential to power new manufacturing, and supply chain companies that stand ready to bring long-term investment to the state.”

A great example of clean energy capital investment in the state is Form Energy’s Form Factory 1, a high-volume battery manufacturing facility in Weirton, West Virginia, located at the former Weirton Steel plant site. The project employs over 750 people and has an annual production capacity of 500 megawatts (MW) of batteries when operating at full capacity.

On August 29, ACP, American Electric Power, Form Energy, and BHE Renewables will celebrate clean energy’s accomplishments and future in the state with a panel discussion, “Fuel for Thought,” at the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Business Summit. Senators Joe Manchin (I), Shelley Moore Capito (R), and Congresswoman Carol Miller (R) will also attend the Business Summit, which is being held at the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs
